You read XKCD, right?
If you don't, you really, really should.
It was introduced to me last summer by the amazingly net-presence-free ML, and Teh Geek and I have enjoyed reading it ever since.
Anyway, you should go check it out. The Journal Saga has been expanded, and it continues to be one of the most awesome sequences of webcomics ever. (Here are the links to parts *1*, *2*, *3*, *4* and *5*.) It is the story of how two people with a strong enough connection to each other...
Never mind. Just read it yourself and experience the awesome. (And don't forget to read the extra bits of text you get whenever you mouse over the comic.)
Over the last weekend, Rylie gave me a new button for my recovered baldrics. It shows a blown up detail of a stick figure saying, "I LIKE MY HAT." It is now proudly displayed right on the front of the baldrics where they cross. It is a gift that I cherish greatly.
Yes, I assure you all that I am, in fact, still alive. (Not that you could tell, really, from having only posted twice so far this month.) Life has been picking up a serious case of the busy over the last few weeks, and I can't remember the last time I've had some free time when I didn't feel like collapsing in a puddle on the floor. There are some of you out there that I really need to catch up with, and I'm real sorry that I've been hard to reach. (arabella23 and thecommanderdia are at the top of that list, followed closely by talentedhands.) I'm not sure when things are going to clear up any time soon either, but I promise I haven't forgotten anyone.
This weekend is going to be a complete wash for me, by the way. It's the October Rehearsal Weekend for Revels and the 30th AnniversAle for the Foggs at the same time. Since it looks like I'm not going to figure out how to clone myself in the next 45 minutes or so, I won't be able to do both at the same time. *sigh* So it'll be rehearsal all day today, a morris dancer party tonight, costume fitting tomorrow around noon and then off downtown to find the team and finish the walking tour with them until I drop.
As an aside, I received my baldrics last night!
As another aside, it turns out that my old job here in Silver Spring has just opened up again. I need to decide whether or not to present myself as a candidate for it... As I was telling my boss, there are some burned bridges there that might be better off left as they are. Either way, I'm going to be spending Wednesday back in my old office helping out the person who trained me in the first place. I'll probably find out more then.
That's all I have time for now... Off to rehearsal!
Last night was the first rehearsal of the season for the Foggy Bottom Morris Men. Before things really started up, I had a moment to stand around and talk to zombie_dog and some random dude. The conversation went something like this:
Me: So I got this phone call earlier today. Something's come up, and it looks like there's a possibility that I won't be able to sword or border on stage with the team during Revels this year after all.
Sumdood: Oh! That's terrible! I'm sorry to hear it.
Z-Dog: Wait. This is giddysinger talking here. That means that there's some sort of twist here, and he's going to turn it around on us in a moment. He's probably still going to be on stage anyway, just not able to dance with the team. So that means that someone in the chorus had to drop out, and giddysinger got the call today that he's now in the show. Am I right?
Me: [By this point, I'm laughing too hard to respond coherently.]
It's official, folks. I'm in the show this year.
I don't have all of the details yet, but the Foggs are going to be doing a dance out somewhere in Arlington on Thursday evening. It will probably be taking place in the Clarendon or Courthouse area. (Or maybe not... The exact location has not been decided, apparently.) This is going to be our last time dancing as a team until the fall, so it would be great to see a crowd of friends there.
As an additional incentive, there shall be much consumption of beer as we dance from bar to bar.
It'll be a great time. After all, those Foggy Bottom Morris Men are some wild and crazy guys.
One more thing, and then I'll be leaving for work, honest.
The FSGW Washington Folk Festival will be this weekend at Glen Echo Park. The Festival will run from 12 - 7 on both Saturday and Sunday. The Foggs will be dancing on Sunday pretty much all afternoon off and on, and it would be great to see some friends there cheering us on.
The downside of all of this is that since I'm going to be dancing with the Foggs, I'm going to miss a couple of VERY cool performances. Of special note, former Revels tradition bearer (from the 1998 Shephard's Alley show) Amadou Kouyate will be performing in the Yurt Village at noon on Sunday, and Steve Winnick is doing a presentation of period Robin Hood ballads in the Puppet Theatre at 12:45. Ah well....
Anyway, will anyone be up for the contra that night after the Festival is over?
Jiggermeister is coming!!! Some of us were planning on going to the contra dance on Sunday the 10th anyway, but I just looked at my FSGW newsletter and realized that a really, really cool band is going to be playing that night. I've included a track off of their album Grab Bag here, just to give you a taste. The accordian player in the band happens to be Andrew Marcus, a fellow member of the Foggy Bottom Morris Men and a really cool dude to boot.
Everyone should come! It'll be great!
Oh... And I'm sorry about that whole '1' thing in the title of the post.
